Bonnie Johanssen is the wife of Henrik and the mother of Gracie. Along with her family, she is a member of the Prolethean brotherhood.

History[]

In "Governed by Sound Reason and True Religion", Bonnie asked Henrik if she should make another bed for their incoming guest. Henrik told her it would depend on whether Mark could get her out of the hospital or not. Later, when the expected "guest", Helena, finally arrived, Bonnie was

In "Mingling Its Own Nature With It", her husband is wed to Helena so they could finally inseminate her without violating their religious beliefs.

In "Governed As It Were By Chance", Bonnie was tending to Helena when she woke. She calmed her and tried to get her daughter Gracie to accept her presence in the farm. She then spotted Art taking photos of their compound—apparently not the first time. She pointed this out to her husband, who brushed it off without worry. Later, she would find Gracie passed out, an empty bed where Helena should be, and she screamed for her husband. Later, after seeing to it that Gracie is fine, Bonnie is among those peering into the microscope to watch Helena's extracted egg fertilize.

In "Ipsa Scientia Potestas Est", Bonnie and Henrik had Gracie locked in a cell for her part in Helena's escape. She and her husband discussed her punishment, and Bonnie, displeased that Gracie is "clinging to the old ways," insisted on keeping her locked up until she admits to the truth. Refusing to tell them anything, Gracie's lips are literally sewn shut. When Gracie did finally confess, it was to Henrik.

When Helena burned down the New World Proletheans' farm in "By Means Which Have Never Yet Been Tried", Bonnie was not home and thus did not perish in the fire.

In Formalized, Complex, and Costly Bonnie traces down Mark and wants to kill him with a rifle.

In Newer Elements of Our Defense she takes Gracie to the farm of Mr Appleyard. She banishes Gracie when it is revealed that Gracie has a miscarriage.
