“They grew up together. Always aware of who and what they were,” Charlotte said. “Honestly, I’m a little envious.”

The Boston "Cousin" Clones are a group of clones, still derived from the LEDA sample of DNA, who were all raised somewhat self aware by parents of whom were all scientists. Each couple adopted one clone.
As Dana explains it to Charlotte. They always knew each other, grew up together. Their parents all work for various government departments; each couple, given a baby. They were like LEDA in the fact that they were a 'social experiment'.
The Clones all lived in the same neighborhood, went to the same grade school, though they were the only students to attend. As they grew older the clones were sent to boarding schools scattered around the country for high school.
By then Dana said the girls were old enough to know it wasn’t normal, they were not allowed to talk about it. But all the girls kept in touch. Some even lived in the same city.

Season 1[]
“It’s not that simple. They’re not ... you know ... they’re not like your aunts. I mean, they are, but—” Charlotte huffed. “It’s all a mess. I filled them in earlier this morning, so your aunts are on it, but it’s ... it’s strange. Nothing about it feels right. I’m sorry, I’ll have to explain more in person, or secure chat ...” Charlotte exhaled loudly. “I have to stay here for a few days, just to make sure I haven’t infected myself, too.”
“Whoa, wait a minute. Are you gonna be okay?”
“I—I think so. Yes, I will be.” She could practically hear Charlotte stiffening her upper lip. “But if someone’s targeting our genome—which the women here seem to believe—” -Charlotte and Kira discussing the new clones
Dana Emmett, was a clone that Charlotte and her aunts Cosima and Delphine saw online on a site called "SpareADime". This started a huge to do with Cosima and Charlotte. Cosima managed to convince Alison to help out with finding Dana and getting her the LEDA vaccine. Eventually was found by Charlotte Bowles and Alison Hendrix at a Boston Hospital with a very bad disease that appeared to be attacking clones, but not the one that had been killing off the LEDA Clones previously.
The LEDA's original goal was to the give her vaccine, instead when Charlotte was in the isolation room where Dana was, she saw the actual reason Dana was there, and what was making her sick. This illness took the form of a 'mottled splotch crawling from beneath her hospital gown like some kind of living thing, the wheezing catch in her breath'. It was a clone sickness, but one the LEDA's had never seen before.
Unfortunately Charlotte got sick as well as Dana. White visiting with Dana, getting sicker herself, Dana had a visitor. This man, had never met her before. He claimed to be the man who took over the department that includes the Clone experiment.
He sees the twenty-eight years long project and clones as pointless and useless and is trying to figure out how to close the program as they pose 'an incredible number of risks, not the least of which a public relations disaster. And all for a program that doesn’t even bring any benefits.'
Charlotte watched the shadow of the man’s arm move. He appeared to be doing something to Dana’s IV drip. “You’re very resilient, you know,” he said. “You and all your sisters. Like the twelve dancing princesses, or some other fairy tale.” - Season 1 Ep 5 "Every Child Is Cast From Paradise"
