Dr. Delphine Cormier is one of Aldous Leekie's research associates at the Dyad Institute. She was assigned as a monitor to Cosima in order to get close to her. She posed as an immunology student at the University of Minnesota. Delphine, however, fell in love with Cosima and began helping her learn more about her nature.
Biography[]
History[]
Delphine worked with Dr. Leekie and a group of other scientists at The Dyad Institute, researching and further improving their concept of Neolution. At some point, Delphine developed an intimate relationship with Leekie, though it is indicated that Delphine was uncomfortable with it.
Season 1[]
While studying the blood samples of her clones, Cosima notices Delphine upset with someone on the phone and watches her momentarily until Delphine leaves. Cosima then follows her to return the grade sheet she had left behind and finds her crying. Cosima compliments her on having "killer grades", and the schoolmates properly introduce each other. The two hit it off, however, as Delphine explains that she had just broken up with her long-distance lover and they discuss their courses.
In "Variations Under Domestication", Cosima runs into Delphine in the library, spurred on by "boredom" Cosima puts down her books and strikes up a conversation with Delphine. Delphine says she plans on attending a lecture by Dr Aldous Leekie later the afternoon and she invites Cosima to join her. Although initially hesitant, Cosima agrees to attend. After the lecture Cosima and Delphine are enjoying wine while discussing Neolution, Delphine spots Leekie and rushes over to talk to him. She urges Cosima to join her. What follows is a tense conversation and an invitation by Leekie for the two women to learn more about the Dyad Institute. After he leaves, Delphine tells Cosima "You are such a brat!" to which Cosima responds by stealing some of the complimentary wine. She hands a bottle to Delphine and says "Let's get out of here." They run across campus with the stolen wine as Cosima makes more rebellious suggestions (claiming that she will get Delphine 'baked' on marijuana) but Delphine declines, stating she has class. She bids farewell with two kisses on the cheek. Cosima is obviously very taken with Delphine.
Later in this episode Delphine enters a hotel room, dressed to the nines. A man approaches her from inside the room, speaking in French. The man is revealed to be Dr. Leekie, who then starts kissing her neck. When her face is turned away from him, she looks uncomfortable.
In "Parts Developed in an Unusual Manner", Cosima and Delphine go out to dinner, where Delphine continues her story about her lover in Paris. She explains "I should have left him when I left Paris... he was supposed to follow next month, but I changed my mind". Shortly after this conversation, Dr. Leekie enters the restaurant. Delphine asks if they should invite him to eat with them, to which Cosima shrugs and says "You're single now." Delphine says he's too old, to which Cosima contends "But his mind is sexy." Delphine agrees. She leaves the table and invites Leekie to join them. Cosima is not pleased. After Leekie has joined them, they are discussing Cosima's dissertation when he changes the subject to research at the Dyad institute. Things start getting tense when Cosima brings up Dyad research that shouldn't be public knowledge. Leekie then suggests that the two women apply to the institute, stating "You could be on the cover of Scientific American!". Cosima reminds him that they don't put actual scientists on the cover, and Leekie pointedly says "Well, every rule needs to be broken". The mood around the table is tense, and Delphine looks very uncomfortable.
After dinner Delphine and Cosima return to Cosima's apartment. Delphine asks Cosima why she is so hesitant to join Dyad. Cosima then asks "Don't you think it's time we admit what this is really about?" Delphine starts to panic, thinking Cosima is aware of her monitor duties. But before she can respond Cosima leans in for a kiss. Delphine is surprised at first, then she pulls away and quickly makes for the door. She manages an "It's okay" before she leaves the apartment in a hurry.
In "Entangled Bank", Delphine is seen waiting outside campus until a black car pulls up and she gets quickly gets in. Dr. Leekie is waiting for her inside. He asks about her progress with Cosima and Delphine reveals that Cosima made a pass at her. Leekie tells her that she needs to find out which of the other clones Cosima has been in contact with. Delphine says she needs to wait until Cosima willingly discloses this information. Leekie says that Cosima's life is in danger; Delphine visibly reacts to this news. Leekie urges her to "dig deeper, faster". He then dismisses her, and she exits the car. After that, she goes to Cosima's apartment where they talk about the Dyad Institute and the work that is developed there; Delphine then tells Cosima how she had never considered bisexuality for herself but knows, as a scientist, that sexuality is a spectrum. They kiss and have sex, after which Delphine cries, explaining she always cries after sex with boys too, but is never that hungry. Cosima leaves the apartment to get Eskimo Pies, which allows Delphine to search the apartment for any information about the clones. She finds a bag where Cosima keeps all the documents she has on cloning and calls Leekie to give this information, keeping the existence of Kira as a secret.
In "Unconscious Selection", Delphine shows up at a lab where Cosima is talking to Scott about the genomes and asks if she can go to Cosima's apartment later in the day, and before leaving kisses her. When she arrives to the apartment she salutes Cosima with a kiss saying "Bon soir, ma chérie", but notices Cosima's unhappy and tense reaction. Cosima then confronts Delphine with a picture of a group of doctors (including Aldous Leekie) from the Dyad Institute on a website where her name appears as Cormier, not Beraud, as she had been introduced.
Season 2[]
In Nature Under Constraint and Vexed, in Felix's apartment, draws a blood sample from Cosima. Cosima questions why she should go to the Dyad event, and Delphine insists they need Dyad now that Cosima is sick. Cosima confronts Delphine about still working for Dr. Leekie. Delphine claims she is doing it "on your behalf, to protect you." Cosima dictates her terms: the blood samples are not to go to Dyad, and Delphine is not to tell them they know about the patent. Delphine agrees, and the two embrace. Delphine then goes to the Dyad Institute, a security guard stops her, and states that Dr. Leekie asked to have her escorted upstairs upon her arrival. Delphine agrees and follows him. Delphine stands in Leekie's office. He asks where Cosima is, and Delphine says she is "exactly where you want her." Leekie warns her about "playing for the other team," but Delphine states that Cosima is scared after seeing how he prosecuted Sarah. Leekie dismisses this, saying "Sarah is not your subject," and demands that Cosima be at Dyad full-time starting that night. Delphine agrees. She then informs him that subject "324B21" (Cosima) is showing the same respiratory symptoms as the other two. She places the vial of Cosima's blood on his desk and says, "Congratulations. I'm invested. Which I'm sure is what you wanted." At the Dyad corporate party, Delphine, sees whom she believes is Cosima (it's Sarah disguised as Cosima). Delphine approaches, calls out "Cosima!", and greets her with a kiss. Dr. Leekie then approaches and greets "Cosima." Fake Cosima demands her own lab then hug Leekie and steals his security pass card from his jacket. Delphine realizes who she is speaking to. She pulls Sarah close and whispers, "You're Sarah." Sarah asks for Rachel's location. Delphine informs her that Rachel may be in Leekie's office but warns that a specific swipe card is required for that floor. Sarah then reveals the card she just stole, and Delphine tells her, "You're going to get yourself killed."
In Governed by Sound Reason and True Religion, Delphine and Cosima are seated across from Dr. Leekie in his office. When Leekie accuses Cosima of colluding with Sarah, Delphine defends her, saying, "She fooled us, too." Delphine then reveals to Cosima that Sarah stole his pass card. After Leekie offers Cosima a lab and a position, Delphine smiles and says she just wants "to make crazy science with you in our new lab." Leekie gives Delphine and Cosima a tour of a laboratory in an older section of the Institute. He explains it's where their most sensitive research occurs and that Cosima will be working on herself. Alone with Cosima in the new lab, Delphine examines some equipment. Cosima asks if a "GeneChip system" would make a two-channel array "moot." Delphine smiles at her use of the word. The two share a tender moment and kiss. Rachel interrupts their kiss and introduce herself.
In Mingling its Own Nature With It, Delphine enters Leekie's office with Cosima, Delphine tells Cosima to come over, saying she has a right to see something important. She then plays a video diary on a large monitor, revealing another clone, Jennifer Fitzsimmons. As Cosima reacts, Delphine watches her with empathy and concern. She reveals that Jennifer was the first clone to show symptoms of the respiratory illness and that she passed away just three days prior. Later Delphine and Cosima performs an autopsy on Jennifer Fitzsimmons' body. When Cosima has a severe coughing fit, Delphine pauses to check on her before continuing. She finds that the growths on Jennifer's uterus are far more pronounced than those in her lungs. As she theorizes that the disease, and by extension the clones' infertility, originates in the uterus, she's interrupted by Cosima's phone ringing.

In Things Which Have Never Yet Been Done, following Leekie's death, Rachel Duncan promotes Delphine to Leekie's former position as Director of the Dyad Institute. Rachel makes Cosima's treatment conditional on Delphine's obedience.
In By Means Which Have Never Yet Been Tried, Delphine, as a Director, and on Rachel's orders, informs Cosima she is being transferred to a facility in Frankfurt. Just before departing, she covertly emails Rachel's travel itinerary to Felix, giving Sarah's group a lead.
Season 3[]
In The Weight of this Combination, Delphine comes back from Frankfurt and meets Sarah. She tells Sarah that Marion sent her to protect Dyad and to keep her sisters safe. Delphine tells Sarah that they caught the Castor clone after he tried to kidnap Krystal Goderich. She tells Sarah that Topside are sending a cleaner to Dyad to investigate the security risk posed by the Leda clones and that she needs Sarah to play Rachel.
Delphine visits Rachel and Dr. Nealon, who tells her that they couldn't save the eye. Delphine tells him that Topside are sending Ferdinand and he tells her about Helsinki. Delphine says that Marion briefed her and that she is here so that it doesn't happen again.
Delphine goes to Felix's loft and sees Cosima. They hug and Cosima says she's so happy to have her back. Delphine tells her that she's taking over some of Rachel's duties, so she won't be working with her and Scott. Cosima calls her the 'new Rachel' and is visibly upset. Delphine takes Cosima's hands and tells her that she's keeping her promise - to love all of her sisters equally - but to do so she can't date Cosima anymore. When the door closes, Delphine cries alone.
Sarah agrees to be Rachel in return for Delphine helping her with Helena. Delphine has a meeting with Ferdinand and Sarah forces her hand and tells Ferdinand that Castor has kidnapped Helena. The three go to question Sarah Manning, who Ferdinand believes they are holding, who is actually Alison.
Delphine visits the real Rachel and tells her that she warned her this was personal. Rachel struggles to speak and Delphine pushes down on her eye to get her to speak. Later, Delphine finds Sarah (as Rachel) strangling Ferdinand and stops her. She tells Ferdinand to call off Helsinki and tell Topside that Dyad is secure. In return, she won't tell Marion about Ferdinand sleeping with Rachel. Delphine tells Sarah to stand down.
In Certain Agony of the Battlefield, Delphine is back from Zurich and meets Cosima in her lab. She tells Cosima that she came back as soon as she knew Sarah was missing and asks Cosima if she was going to tell them (Topside). Delphine knows about the Castor brain and asks why they are studying Gracie Johanssen. She shows them the same misfolded protein found in both subjects.
While waiting for the elevator, Delphine asks Cosima if she's not feeling well as Cosima has been missing work and coming in late. Cosima tells her she feels great. When the lift opens, Felix and Gracie step out and they go to the lab to run more tests on Gracie. Delphine explains to Gracie that her husband Mark is healthy as the protein can have a different effect on different people. When Gracie and Felix leave, Delphine tells Cosima that she misses her. Cosima is visibly upset and leaves.
Delphine is in her office looking at photos and footage of Cosima and Shay. She's jealous, angry and upset.
In Community of Dreadful Fear and Hate, Delphine shows up at Shay's apartment, looking for Cosima as she and Scott need another urinalysis as Cosima's numbers are worrying. Later in the lab, Delphine is taking a blood sample from Rachel and panics when Rachel says the name of a board game in front of her. Delphine laughs when Rachel asks Scott to teach her the game, as a cover for deciphering the book.
In Ruthless in Purpose, and Insidious in Method, Delphine receives a manicure from Krystal, a very naive Leda clone, and listens to Krystal tell her her version of events from the night with the Castor clones, whom she thinks were identical twins. Delphine tells her that she has a family practice as a doctor. Delphine tells Dr. Nealon that it's the best manicure she's ever had and he tells her that they're getting her a new monitor. Delphine tells him that Rachel is a liability and they can't keep her around indefinitely. Delphine visits Rachel and Scott to find that Rachel is improving.
Delphine finds Cosima and Shay in the lab. When Shay leaves, Delphine tells her that her security concerns aren't jealousy. She tells her "I'm French. We enjoy lovers...Can we put our minds together...and leave the crazy science out of it?" Delphine informs Cosima of a Polish clone who has also died. Whilst thinking out loud, Delphine places her hand on top of Cosima's. Cosima rubs her thumb on Delphine's hand. They're interrupted by Delphine's mobile as Scott calls to tell her about the book.
At Scott's apartment, Delphine now knows about the code from Duncan and is annoyed that Cosima didn't trust her. Cosima tells her they didn't make a copy of the book and Scott tells her that Rachel can read it.
Later, Delphine finds Cosima waiting for her in her office. Cosima hands her her resignation and Delphine tries to convince her to stay saying anyone could be a spy. Cosima tells Delphine that the day she left for Frankfurt she almost died, she had a vision of Delphine and came back for her. Delphine, on the verge of tears, asks Cosima why she didn't tell her. Cosima says it was because she doesn't believe stuff like that. Delphine tells her to "come here" and they kiss before Delphine pushes her away. Delphine apologises and says Cosima should have trusted her.
Delphine knew about Scott taking Rachel to Mrs. S's house. Dr. Nealon told her he thought she could handle it and gives Delphine the copy of the book. The next day Dr. Nealon tells Delphine that the stress was too much for Rachel and she suffered an acute intra-cranial bleed and is in an induced coma to control swelling but she may never recover. Delphine tells Cosima that her resignation is accepted and so is Scott's. Delphine gives Cosima a folder on Shay.
in Insolvent Phantom of Tomorrow, Cosima visits Delphine in her office now that she thinks might Shay is a mole for Castor. Cosima tells Delphine that Sarah is in London right now trying to kill the Castor original.
Delphine visits Shay at her apartment with two bodyguards and orders her to sit down and take off her shoes. Shay tells Delphine that she's not a corporate spy. Delphine begins to run a bath and pulls out a razor. Delphine tells her than when she was at boarding school a girl she knew very well attempted suicide. She slit her wrists in the bathtub but it wasn't enough; she should have cut the metatarsal arteries on the top of her feet too. Cosima phones Delphine and tells her that is wasn't Shay who took the book.
That evening in Delphine's office, Ferdinand calls her and finds out that she didn't tell him about Sarah in London. They arrange to talk at Dyad.
In History Yet to Be Written, Delphine is in her office when she places a small handgun in her inside pocket of her blazer. Ferdinand joins her and tells her in wants the original, Kendall Malone, so that he can give her over to Topside and get a seat at the table. Delphine tells him that's not how it's going to work and Sarah walks in.
Delphine tells Dr. Nealon that Ferdinand thinks Rachel is dead. Delphine thinks she is alone with Rachel but it turns out to be Krystal who slaps Delphine in the face when she wakes up confused. Delphine has Dr. Nealon arrested and tells him that she knows Rachel flew to Austria as Krystal Goderich, took a car to Innsbruck and was admitted to a private hospital and disappeared. Dr. Nealon tells Delphine to turn on the screen and is shown a confused Rachel. He tells her he works for Neolution. The guards disappear and he jumps Delphine, choking her and trying to get the bot into her mouth but Delphine shoots him with her gun. He tells her "You won't live till morning". Delphine phones Sarah and tells her she can't give the genetic material to Ferdinand as both Castor and Leda are run by Neolution.
Delphine visits Shay and tells her that what she did was unforgivable but that she knows that Cosima really cares Shay. She gives Shay a Dyad business card with 324B21 on it and tells Shay to tell Cosima that she said to tell her everything; if she wants to. Delphine tells Shay to be good to Cosima.
Delphine goes to Alison's shop where the clones are having dinner together. Cosima meets her outside and tells her that she knows why Delphine did everything she did, that she was sorry she made her make those hard choices and then blame her for them. Delphine begins to cry and then they kiss. Delphine tells Cosima to "Give your sisters all my love".
Delphine parks at the Dyad and gets out. Footsteps can be heard behind her as she walks through the carpark. She stops and puts her bag down onto the ground, turns around to face an unseen assailant and asks them "What will happen to her?" She is shot once and falls against a car, bleeding out.
Season 4[]
In Mitigation of Competition, Delphine is seen writing at a small desk in a hut-like setting with French music playing in the background. The door opens and closes, an old hand is placed on her shoulder and Delphine turns to the side slightly to show her face, smiling slightly.
In From Dancing Mice to Psychopaths, Delphine leaves her cabin as Cosima and Charlotte are led into the camp. She rushes to Cosima's side, pulling them close so their foreheads touch before Cosima collapses into Delphine's arms and a blanket in wrapped around her.
Delphine helps Cosima to lie down on a bed in the cabin. Delphine cuts off Cosima's top as she calls out for blood pressure and core temperature measurements. Delphine tells them she's hypothermic before telling them to leave her and Cosima alone. Delphine tells Cosima to keep breathing as she pulls the blanket up to her chin, telling her "I'm right here". Delphine strips down to her bra and boxers and then gets into the bed beside Cosima to keep her warm. Cosima tells Delphine that she thinks she's dying. Delphine says "No, you're not. I won't let you". Cosima tells her that she finished their homework and Delphine is confused. They kiss.
Delphine is speaking to a messenger in the cabin and asks him "What else am I supposed to do? What does he have to say about it?" The man tells Delphine that "He's not happy about any of this". Delphine agrees, saying altruism poses a distinct challenge to the evolutionist. The man says that his altruism saved Delphine. Delphine tells him that wasn't what it was. The messenger tells her that she won't be allowed to stay with Cosima. Delphine says she knows but Cosima is her patient and asks the man to leave them.
Delphine tells Cosima that they have to be very careful here as it's not safe. She asks Cosima is their homework is what she thinks it is and Cosima strokes Delphine's face in response. Delphine says "You've found your cure" and they both smile. Delphine says Cosima must not tell anyone.
Season 5[]
In Guillotines Decide, Delphine is with Cosima, in Cosima's bed in the lair under the comic book store, having just returned from a European fact-finding expedition. She's heard of plans in many countries, about to require millions of citizens to submit DNA samples, and Neolution is behind it. Cosima asks Delphine if she wants to "spend the morning safeguarding the genetic future of humankind, or do you... want to have brunch?" Delphine and Siobhan visit Rachel at a hotel hideout to secretly forge an alliance, arguing that since Rachel is now on the outs with Neolution, their interests are aligned. Delphine goes to Felix's art event with Cosima and buys Cosima's painting. Later, Delphine and Cosima leak all of the incriminating Neolution files to the press.
In To Right the Wrongs of Many, Delphine is in a lab with Cosima and Scott, they are making the cure and tracking clones to heal them.
Orphan Black: The Next Chapter[]
Delphine makes an appearance in the first season of the Serial Box audio book series voiced by Tatiana Maslany. It is based 8 years after the end of the TV Series which places it around 2022.
Season 1[]
Her wife Dr Cosima Niehaus just recently finished her doctorate in the series. The two are celebrating seven years of marriage in Season 1 of the series.
Delphine is first seen at their Victorian house in the city, which is still under renovation and has been for many years. She is cooking a wonderful French dinner for them to celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary whilst their niece Charlotte is doing her homework (and living in the basement at the moment.)
Cosima is seen greeting her after a bad job interview under unknown surveillance by CIA Agent Vivi Valdez, and Boston Clone. Dr Sturgis the Head of Research at GRIT was trying to recruit Cosima into a project relating to the Boston Clones, though he would not actually say so. When he brought up his knowledge of her working with DYAD, that closed the interview for her. She had tried very hard to cover up her links to DYAD and Neolution and everything involving clones. Delphine was also very careful at information she divulged regarding DYAD as there was no way to deny her involvement.
After discussing the events of the interview Charlotte brought a photo to their attention. She showed Cosima and Delphine a photo of Dana Emmett on the internet, who was not yet identified, but was known to not be on the LEDA list. This starts a whole whirlwind of questions and pushes her down another path of clones and drama.
Delphine tries to get information from her government sources but it quickly pushed out of earshot. She was briefly updated by one person, but everything went down hill while during a very important presentation she was informed that Cosima was wrongfully arrested by the RCMP under the premise that Cosima was in fact Vivi Valdez, a CIA Spy and true murderer or Dr. Sturgis formerly of GRIT.
Sarah Manning had managed to catch Vivi attempting to portray Cosima, and Delphine and Sarah began interrogating her until the house was attacked by media after finding out that LEDA Clones actually exist. Vivi put on a show for the media and called Sarah and Delphine insane and quickly broke free and escaped leaving Sarah and Delphine to fend for themselves trapped in the house surrounded by media while Cosima was in great danger.
Orphan Black: Echoes[]
In 2052, Delphine is called in for a consult by her neice Kira and niece-in-law Eleanor on their medical case.
