Summary[]

Lucy and Jules turn to extreme measures to excavate a shared memory that may contain clues to their past.

Plot[]

Shortly after puking out the pill her adoptive parents made her take, Jules rushes to her room, and looks through her hiding place, where she takes out the hallucinogenic drugs she told Lucy about. Jules quickly puts them into her backpack when she is surprised by the door her room being opened. Luckily, it is just Wes, which calms her down. Jules asks Wes if he heard everything, which he confirms. He asks what she plans to do next, and Jules replies back that she plans to run away. Just then, Neva knocks on the door and then comes in, telling Jules she was just checking in. She offers to take Jules out for some ice cream, just the two of them, but Jules turns her down, stating that it has been a long day. Eventually, Jules convinces Wes to switch cell phones with her, and to let her borrow some of the clothes that she is wearing. She manages to get out of the building. Unbeknownst to her, that she is being watched, and that switching cell phones and clothes threw off Tom and his other co-worker.

Elsewhere, two men are towing Lucy’s RV to an undisclosed area.

Meanwhile, Lucy and Jack explain to Charlie why the man she killed was chasing Lucy in the first place. She explains how she was created by a machine akin to a 3D printer. But Charlie is skeptical, and isn’t convinced, but Lucy assures her that is. Charlie then asks Lucy if it hurts. Lucy reiterates that she just woke and was brand new. To which Charlie tells Lucy that this information makes Lucy cooler. Lucy tells Charlie she loves her, and gets called a nerd as a result. The happy moment is broken when Tina informs Lucy that she has a young visitor looking for her.

Later, Tina decides that she does not want to know what weird stuff is going on, and says she has a date. But warns Lucy, Jules and Jack that if they mess up her stuff, she will mess them up. Afterwards, Jules tells Lucy she is kind of surprised that the older woman is in a monogamous, cis-het relationship.

Once Jules and Lucy take the drugs that Jules suggested could help them unlock more answers about where they come from, Jack wrangles them in, by showing the two women Lucy’s notebook, full of drawings. Lucy points to Kira, and tells Jules that is who made her, and asks the younger woman if she recognizes her. But Jules says she does not. However, she tells Lucy that what she does see in her dreams is the same hunting knife. Later, using some paint, the two women paint the respective stuff they remember from their shared memory, and then use the pieces of paper to literally get the bigger picture. What freaks them out is that they begin to hear a weird sound. They ask Jack if he can hear it, but he can’t and instead suggests that they take a break.

Out on the porch, Lucy tells Jules she doesn’t even know if she had a childhood; let alone if it was a happy or crappy one. Jules jokes that since she was printed out, Lucy may only technically be two years old. Lucy then asks Jules if she is happy. To which the young girl says maybe sometimes, but she doesn’t know what that is like, and if what makes her happy, also makes Lucy happy. Lucy then admits that for her, being Charlie’s mom, and being with Jack makes her so happy. She then tells Jules, how she thinks that the original version had a kid too. The two women then get more existential, rhetorically asking questions like: do print-outs have souls? or What happens when they die?

The next day, at the Darros Foundation, Kira goes to Pau and asks Paul to be honest with her about what she plans to do to Lucy. She asks him if he is the kind of person who is comfortable having blood on his hands. He circumvents giving her a straight answer, and instead tells her that the best kind of science is flexible, and that sometimes sacrifices for the greater good need to be made. As Kira tries to calm herself from the ensuing panic attack, Emily comes to her, and tells the older woman that there is something she needs to see. But that needs to be done quickly, as they don’t have a lot of time.

Meanwhile, now with the effects of the drug out of their system, Jules and Lucy look at what they painted. Lucy tells Jules how she had never seen the pile of clothes or watch before. Afterwards, Lucy introduces Charlie to Jules, who asks Lucy if Jules is another print out as well. Jules then signs to Charlie that she thinks Charlie has some cool PJs. Tina then drops in, and notices that one of the things they drew is a monument in Boston.

Elsewhere, Emily shows Kira the RV Lucy had been living in after she escaped. Kira admits that she had been wondering where Lucy was sleeping during all this time. To which Emily says that at least it seems like Lucy had a roof over her head. Emily then informs Kira that they searched the RV in the hopes that they could find something to help them in finding out where Lucy is at, but they had no luck. Kira asks Emily why she is helping her, to which the other woman tells her that she knows what it is like being the only one looking out for someone. Kira then admits that although she is not a religious person, because she put Lucy into this world, and just hoping she is safe has been the closest she has gotten to praying.

Meanwhile, their clues lead them to a sorority house that is having a party, which turns out to be the same house from their shared dream. They are then able to get some more information from the sorority girls who tell Jules and Lucy that some time back, they had an older woman named Melissa show up at their door, saying it was her house. They tell them that they took her back to the assisted living place she wandered out from.

Elsewhere, Neva knocks on Jules’ door as she tells her that it is too late for her to still be sleeping. But instead she finds that Jules is not in her room. She then goes to Wes’ room, and asks him if he knows where Jules is. He lies and says that Jules went out on a weekend field trip for her yearbook club. But Neva sees right through it, and asks Wes what is really going on. Flustered, Wes tells her that Jules is worried she can’t trust Neva or James. To make matters worse, Wes also tells Neva about the time Jules got kidnapped by Lucy.

Meanwhile, at Legacy Assisted Living, Lucy and Jules meet Melissa, who calls them Eleanor. According to the nurse, Melissa has Alzheimer’s. Then, after she has stepped out of the day room, the nurse calls Kira to let them know that Melissa had some visitors whom she called Eleanor. Unbeknownst to her, the phone line is tapped and Tom is listening in. Melissa then unintentionally reveals that this Eleanor person is her daughter, when she tells Jules to get ready already because her father won’t like it if they are late.

Later, Tom, Myung and Emily are on the road, and the latter is hating every second that the other two use to belt out to Celine Dion’s “It's All Coming Back to Me Now”.

Back at Legacy Assisted Living, Melissa is brushing Jules’ hair, as she reiterates that this is a big day for her. She berates Lucy and Jules, who says that Melissa is kind of a bitch.

Meanwhile, Kira is finally listening to her voicemail, and makes a u-turn in order to get to Legacy Assisted Living after realizing that Lucy is there. Once she sits down, Lucy notices a pillow and there is Melissa standing next to a young girl who just graduated from high school, and looks just like Jules. At the moment, it finally sinks in for Jules that they really are clones of Eleanor. Melissa then goes on to say how she was so proud of Eleanor day. How her daughter succeeded in spite of everything that life threw at her. Jules then asks Melissa what Eleanor was like as a kid. Melissa smiles and says that she was always getting into some kind of trouble. But ultimately there were times she was too smart for her own good. Unfortunately, before they can continue asking Melissa more questions, Lucy spots some people getting out of a car. Lucy states that it will be safer if they split up, since they want her after all. Jules at first doesn't want to, but ultimately does as Lucy suggested. But to her surprise, she comes face to face with Neva. The older woman asks her if she is alright, but Jules remains cold and distant with her. Jules asks Neva if she is one of them, and Neva doesn’t understand what is going on. She tries to get Jules to trust her by saying that someone has been lying to both of them. Tom then calls out to Jules, and as a way of defending her, Neva uses her pepper spray and the two of them get out of the building.

Lucy eventually gets out of the building and much to her own surprise, Kira arrives, who pulls down her window and yells at her to get in her car. Lucy retorts that Kira is the last person she’d want to get in the car with. When Lucy doesn’t budge, Kira shows her the page from The Identity of Man, which Lucy drew a picture of a young boy on. She tells Lucy once again to get in her car as she can tell her who she really is. Seeing the other people running after her, Lucy ultimately sees Kira as the lesser of two evils, and gets in her car.

Myung shoots at Kira’s car, but the other women are able to get away. Afterwards, Kira and Lucy are sitting on a bench in some park. Kira asks Lucy if Melissa tried to brush her hair. But instead of answering, Lucy remains stoic. Kira goes on to tell Lucy that the first thing she should know is that she was made out of love.
