Summary[]

After being kidnapped and taken to a mysterious compound, Jules attempts to escape captivity with the help of an unusual new friend, while Lucy and Kira chase down a lead looking to uncover how Jules was created

Plot[]

Kira angrily calls Josh asking him who the hell is Jules, and if he rebuilt the printer. She then asks him if he printed out a 16 year old version of her deceased wife. Josh is unable to give a straight answer. Kira realizes the betrayal, and says she is coming over to his house, but Josh says not to bother as he has moved. She then quickly realizes that the vet Josh takes his cat will know where he currently lives. So she tasks Lucy with this, but the younger woman asks why she should trust Kira right now. Kira replies that she made her, and thus she feels responsible for Lucy, and anyone else that was created from the printer. So ultimately, she is not the kind of person to walk away from that. Taking a leap of faith, Lucy decides to trust Kira. Once she leaves, Lucy quickly texts Jules saying she found the woman who made her, and asks her if she is safe.

Meanwhile, Alex tells Jules that everything she told her sounds crazy, but she believes her. So they will go to the Darros Foundation first thing in the morning and get some answers. Apparently Paul owns Alex’s bank, and according to her adoptive mother, he oversaw the adoption process with Alex. However, just as Alex steps out of the car and sees her husband, a black van arrives and one of the people there is Dr. Pam Teller, who tells Jules she needs to come with her. Jules doesn’t want to, one of the other people with Pam takes away her phone. James apologizes to Alex just as Pam says that Jules is being removed from their care. Pam then warns Alex that if she causes a scene, she will be sorry.

Later that night, Kira arrives back at home, and she is surprised to see her wife back from her business trip. She hugs this version of Eleanor tightly.

In the past, Josh comes to Kira with a suggestion of developing a higher resolution version of Eleanor at the age she was when she died. But Kira doesn’t want to do it after what happened with Lucy. She further mentions that this version of Eleanor would still develop early on-set Alzeheimer’s , and much sooner than the younger version. Kira admits that she can’t put herself through all that pain again. However after some thinking, she ultimately decides to try again. This time being successful, and Kira ultimately lies to this print-out by telling her she had an accident at the pool, which caused a severe concussion. Afterwards, Kira takes away a key part of the printer and shatters it.

Back in the present, Kira and this version of Eleanor are in bed, with the former wide awake and the latter just waking up. She kisses Eleanor deeply, but eventually they are interrupted by Lucy’s text who informs Kira she is on her way to the vet.

Meanwhile, Jules tries to unsuccessfully break out of where she is being kept at. But eventually, Paul waltzes through the door, and casually asks her how she slept. Rather than beat around the bush, Paul confesses that he was the one that printed her. When Jules presses for more answers, Paul tries to say that he doesn’t want to overwhelm her. But Jules fires back telling him she is in this predicament because of Paul. He eventually acquiesced and lets her get out of the room she is being kept in. She goes around an outdoor, tree-covered area, and eventually comes across a cube of sorts with what looks to be some plants inside. Curious, she touches the cube-like structure, which in turn emanates a high pitch sound that brings Jules to her knees and loses consciousness. When she comes to, a young man tells Jules that she got too close to the sonic field. Jules asks where it went, and the young man tells Jules that the sound stops when they move away. He also goes to explain that it works like a fence because it goes around the whole property.

At Dewar Animal Hospital, Lucy eventually asks Kira how bad the Alzheimer’s she has coming her way twenty years from now as a result of the original Eleanor suffering from it.. Lucy then asks Kira if she knows what she did was wrong. To which Kira states that she does, and tries to tell Lucy that she has not had a good night’s sleep since Lucy ran away from her. Then, Kira explains how at first she wanted to make sure Lucy knew who she was meant to be if she found her again. But now, all she wants is to make sure that what happened to Lucy does not happen to anyone else.

Elsewhere Xander tends to Jules’ injured leg with some sort of fast healing medicine he pours onto the injured leg. Which in turn heals in a matter of seconds. Eventually, Jules sees something big being covered, and even though Xander tries to stop Jules, she still pulls off the blanket covering the big object that turns out to be some giant rock made of graphene, which is super rare. Xander explains that from what he heard, it was meant to be some sort of rocket. She then comes across some botanical garden of sorts which houses several plants, including one that according to Jules is supposed to be extinct.

As printed-out Eleanor tends to her garden, Kira pours some medicine into her wife’s tea, but today, Eleanor opts to not have a warm drink. Instead, she chooses to have some orange juice. Kira presses Eleanor to have some tea, and eventually her wife tells her to leave it on the counter, and she will drink it later.

Back at the Darros compound, Xander shows Jules what he has been working on. Which turns out to be mycelium, which apparently there’s a few up in the planet Mars being used at the moment. She is admittedly impressed, but the wonder soon wears off, and Jules tells Xander that she needs to get home. She asks him if he will help her get out of this place by potentially turning off the sound field. But Xander apologizes and says that he can’t, and to make matters worse, even if she got out, there’s twenty miles of nothing but trees. He also tells her how there’s dangerous wildlife like bears, and that overall it's not safe for her. To which Jules says that he better help her then.

Later that night, Lucy goes on to tell Jack everything Kira told her about her origins. To which Jack admits is a lot to unpack. Jack then mentions how Kira is rich, to which Lucy says that the older woman is also entitled, pushy and reckless to name a few things. Jack however points out that the older version of her fell in love with Kira. Lucy explains that was the original Eleanor, not her, and that to her the only people who matter are Jack and Charlie.

At Kira and Eleanor’s home, the two women are having their son and girlfriend over for dinner. Although Kira unintentionally insults Rhona by saying that anyone who entertains theology as a form of science, can’t see the actual science around them. She tries to apologize shortly thereafter, but ends up making it worse by saying how she really hates God. Eleanor apologizes to Rhona on Kira’s behalf, and Lucas calls Kira out and apologizes to her. Rhona takes it in stride and says that she is just happy to have been invited. Moreover, she understands that family is hard.

Back at the compound, Jules and Xander get into Paul’s office to look for the device that will disable the sound field. She becomes entranced by an object displaying different symbols, and is about to touch it, when Xander stops her. She asks him why she should touch it, but he doesn’t answer her. Instead, telling her that he found the clicker.

Elsewhere, Kira realizes that she was awful, the girl that Lucas brought home to introduce to his two moms. Eleanor doesn’t argue with that statement; adding that Kira was certainly not at her nicest. To make matters worse, Kira finds out that Eleanor has been having sex with some other woman. Kira is left without words, and Eleanor asks her wife to say something. Eventually, Kira mutters “okay”. Which angers Eleanor, who asks Kira what is wrong with her, and to ask her why she had sex with someone else. Kira states that perhaps she doesn’t want to know. Eleanor argues that perhaps she should care, and wonders if Kira doesn’t realize what is going on with their marriage as of late. Eleanor points out how one moment Kira is harping on her to drink her tea, while tonight she is okay that she is sleeping with other people. She then points out how at times Kira is so needy, and other times so distant. Furthermore, Eleanor explains how there are times she looks at Kira, and sees her wife afraid that she will leave her. This reminds Kira of the original Eleanor dying, and eventually Kira admits that it is her who has changed. After this revelation, Kira gets out of bed, and takes her pillow with her to sleep on the couch.

At the compound, Xander is looking around at night, when he is confronted by one of the guards, who asks him if he is pulling a night shift. The guard asks if he has some fertilizer for the orchids that are used to feed the tortoises Paul has, but Xander looks in his truck and informs the guard he does not. Without much fuss, the guard leaves, and Xander checks on Jules.

Elsewhere, Kira has passed out after drinking some wine on the couch. She is woken up to her cell phone ringing. Once she picks it up, Lucy gives Kira Josh’s address and states that it is military grade intel, so she’s very sure they have the right location. Kira then asks if Lucy will meet her there, but Lucy says she is worried about Jules. So she will be checking up on her, and thinks Kira can handle Josh alone.

Back at the compound, Xander wishes Jules good luck, who thanks her for sticking his neck out for her. He presses the clicker to disable the sound field, but it does not work. He admits that they reset the frequencies every so often so he does not know what else to do. He tells Jules that maybe this is a sign, but Jules remains adamant that she needs to get home. She asks to be left alone, and eventually Xander relents. Once he is gone, Jules sobs.

Meanwhile, Kira arrives at Josh’s address who is all packed up and ready to skip town. She confronts Josh and asks why he put their tech in the hands of a delusional billionaire. Josh reminds Kira that this whole mess started because Kira wanted to print her dead wife, so as to not lose her forever. Kira admits that it wasn’t correct, but that at the end of the day, the two of them discussed the ethics of what they were doing, and did it anyway.

Back at the compound, a now composed Jules goes back into where she was originally being kept by Paul, and hears some singing. Which turns out to be Xander who is practicing his mannerism and dialect by watching a recording of Paul giving his backstory.

At Josh’s house, he explains how he made Paul one lens for the printer and tells Kira that what Paul is doing is some typical rich people stuff. He wants to extend his life, and is using the printer’s cloning capabilities to find a way to do so. At that moment, Kira realizes that Paul has also printed himself.

At the compound, Jules makes her presence known by asking Xander if he is a print out of Paul. Xander states how he is Paul’s prime and he will be carrying on his creator’s legacy. Jules just says how Paul is nothing but a narcissistic prick.

Back at Josh’s house, Kira asks her once trusted friend and confidante why he helped Paul print out Jules. Josh simply states that he did it for the money and that Darros paid him a lot of money to rebuild him the machine. He thought having so much wealth would make him happy, but now he realizes he is not at all happy. Kira points out that she is at least trying to rectify the mistake she made with Lucy. But what makes things worse for Josh, is he knowingly printed out a kid with no memories or an idea of who she is. Taking a page out of Lucy’s book and what she said to Kira after finding out the truth, Kira asks Josh if he has any idea what it must feel like to come into the world to be no one because they have no idea who they are. Josh gets teary-eyed and admits that he doesn’t know what that must feel like, but that it must feel bad.

At the compound, Jules asks Xander if he has any idea who her prime is. But Xander tells her he has no clue, and that he didn’t know about her until today. Previously, he thought he was the only one. He admits that Paul wanted Jules to see the compound, and all the seemingly amazing things they are working on. Xander then confesses that he was planted to be someone Jules would trust in order to have an open mind about the compound. He further confesses that there is no way out of here, and that Paul owns her.

At Josh’s house, he tells Kira how he can’t believe how fractured their relationship is now. He goes on to say how he really thought they would be partners forever, and tells Kira how much he looked up to her and saw her as his hero. He loved working with her and respected Kira so much, and that she was his whole concept for what it meant to be a good scientist. He wishes he could take back the damage he did, but confides in her that they can’t go back, and that in the end Darros owns them. To her surprise, Josh pulls out a gun from his bag, and Kira tries to calm him down, saying they can figure out a way out of this mess. But a teary-eyed Josh says that they both know they can’t. In a flash, he puts the gun to his head and shoots it, with some of his blood splattering Kira’s face.

Meanwhile, at the compound, Jules gets back to the room Paul had originally been keeping her at, and sees that some information on her prime was being kept. Inside the folder is a journal and information on the original Eleanor Miller.
